12th Social Research Conference in HIV, Hepatitis C and Related Diseases Article - Posted on 16 April 2012

The 12th HHARD Social Research Conference themed silence&articulationwas held at The University of New South Wales 12 13 April 2012. This biennial conference plays an important role in providing a platform for networking and knowledge sharing between social and behavioural science researchers, policy makers, health professionals and community organisations. Keynote speakers including Prof Jane Ussher, Mr John Godwin and Prof Alison Ritter explored how society understands and approaches stigmatised illnesses, sexualities and illicit drug use. In a plenary address, former NSW Minister of Health, Hon John Della Bosca described the politics involved in the establishment of the Medically Supervised Injecting Centre in Kings Cross.

CSRH AusAID ALAF Programs Article - Posted on 1 March 2012

CSRH is continuing to coordinate successful capacity building education programs funded by AusAID under the Australian Leadership Award Fellowship (ALAF) scheme. In February, in collaboration with the Centre for HIV Policy at the Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, CSRH hosted 17 Chinese leaders in the Party Schools of the Chinese Communist Party from 14 provinces who undertook a three week training program in Sydney.

Capacity building for HIV and the law Article - Posted on 15 March 2011

This 3-week workshop will be held from 4 to 21 April and will be jointly hosted by the National Centre in HIV Social Research, UNSW, and the Comprehensive AIDS Research Centre, Tsinghua University, Beijing. Funded by AusAID under its Australian Leadership Awards Fellowship scheme, this workshopreflects the ongoing collaboration between the two centres and aims to strengthen Chinese leadership in understanding, identifying and addressing legal aspects of the HIV response.

A team of CSRH researchers (Ms JinmeiMeng, Dr Limin Mao and Prof John de Wit) has received almost $400,000 dollars in funding from AusAID to conduct two leadership programs in collaboration with the Comprehensive AIDS Research Centre at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.

Professor John de Wit, Director of CSRH, was appointed Associate Editor of the Journal Psychology and Health in January this year. Psychology and Health, published by Taylor and Francis, is the official journal of the European Health Psychology Association.
